What is Nitric Acid?
Nitric acid is an inorganic compound with the formula HNO3. It is a highly corrosive mineral acid. The compound is colorless. But samples tend to acquire a yellow cast over time due to decomposition into oxides of nitrogen. follow us in this article to see what is Nitric acid?
Compound
It’s molecules contain 3 oxygen atoms, 1 nitrogen atom, and 1 hydrogen atom. also In HNO3 molecules, one of the oxygen atoms is doubly bonded to the central nitrogen atom.
What is Nitric Acid used for?
Industries use HNO3 for the production of ammonium nitrate, a major component of fertilizers. They also use it for producing explosives like nitroglycerin and trinitrotoluene (TNT) and for oxidizing metals. They have many uses including in agriculture, the manufacture of fertilizers, rubber, other acids, detergents, dyes, some medicines and foods, and in oil refining.
How powerful is it?
HNO3 is one of the seven strong acids. All other acids are classified as weak acids, regardless of their concentration so strong acids are defined by their capacity to completely dissociate into ions when dissolved in water. The PH of Acid Nitric at 1 mm concentration is 3.01.
Nitric Acid dangers
It causes severe skin and eye burns, and may cause blindness and permanent eye damage. therefore inhalation may cause spasms, inflammation and edema of the bronchi or larynx. but effects may be delayed. Large doses may result in Cyanosis or a drastic fall in blood pressure, coma, and even possibly death.
What is Nitric Acid Safety
Use in ventilated areas and in proximity to eyewash and safety shower stations. Meanwhile wear compatible gloves, safety goggles, and a lab coat. Avoid contact with metals. because it is extremely corrosive in the presence of aluminum, copper, and oxides and attacks all base metals.
How to produce it?
The high-temperature catalytic oxidation of ammonia produce nearly all the HNO3 in the U. S. as shown schematically in Figure 8.8-1. This process typically consists of 3 steps: (1) ammonia oxidation, (2) nitric oxide oxidation, and (3) absorption.
How can I provide it?
It is a dangerous compound so supplying it can be difficult. In the past two years, SIPAN Holding Group has been the only exporter of Nitric Acid. Exporting from Iran to destinations such as Dubai, India, and Pakistan. It is among the hazardous and risky products. but the company has successfully executed projects related to it.
